Erick Hallett Makes First NFL Interception

Former Pitt Panthers defensive back Erick Hallett forced his first NFL turnover.

PITTSBURGH -- He was known for making splash plays during his long career as a starter for the Pitt Panthers and Erick Hallett has brought those skills to the NFL.

Hallett, a sixth-round pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars out of Pitt this past spring, came up with an impressive interception this past weekend in their final preseason game against the Miami Dolphins, dragging his toes to stay in bounds after catching the errant pass.

The Jaguars have been impressed with Hallett so far. With starting corner Tyson Campbell sidelined for much of training camp, defensive coordinator Mike Caldwell has been moving the former safety all over the field.

"He's a guy that's a multiple player - he can play safety, nickel, he can play outside a little," Caldwell said. "So he's a guy that has flexibility and we're ready to use all his skills, whether it's playing safety or playing the nickel."

He's made nine total tackles in addition to his interception this preseason.

Hallett made eight interceptions during his time at Pitt and forced four fumbles while recovering five as well. He also recorded 116 tackles over 45 career games as a Panther.
