Date Announced for Pitt's 2024 Season Opener
PITTSBURGH -- The ACC has announced an official start date for the Pitt Panthers' 2024 season this week, with the announcement of more kickoff times still to come.
The Panthers will open their 2024 campaign with a non-conference contest at home inside the friendly confines of Acrisure Stadium against Kent State on August 31st, the first full Saturday of the college football season.
Pitt has played 13 straight season openers at home dating back to 2010, when the then-No. 15 Panthers suffered an upset win on the road to Utah. They haven't opened against a Mid American Conference opponent since drubbing Buffalo, 35-14 at then-Heinz Field in September of 2011.
After a disappointing 3-9 season in 2023, Pitt has reloaded with a new offensive coordinator and three other new offensive assistant coaches. They'll hope to lead an offense that returns most of its starters from last season to more points and aid a defense that remained solid under the direction of head coach Pat Narduzzi and defensive coordinator Randy Bates.
