Three Takeaways From Oklahoma State's Win Over Houston
The Oklahoma State Cowboys downed the Houston Cougars 43-30 in a matchup that saw the Cowboys bounce back after a brutal loss a couple of weeks ago.
Here are three takeaways from Oklahoma State's road win over Houston.
- Brennan Presley's career game. The offense needed life, and it got it from Presley. He was essentially force-fed the ball, and it worked out. He finished with 189 receiving yards with 15 receptions.
Presley's impact helped lead the turnaround, though he didn't find the end zone in this matchup. He was one reception away from tying a program record of 16 receptions. The Cowboys have made it more and more of a focus to get Presley the ball, and they saw it pay off this week.
- Ollie Gordon is going to feast. During the Cowboys' five-game win streak, it felt like it was a weekly guarantee that Gordon was going to have himself a day. Against UCF in the loss over a week ago, he looked human for the first time in weeks as the Cowboys were routed out of Orlando.
Well, it wasn't an ideal first half for Gordon. He seemed to be dealing with a bit of an injury, and was even seen limping into the locker room at halftime. Coming out of the break, though, something changed.
Finishing the game with 25 carries, Gordon had 164 yards and three touchdowns by the time the game finished. He opened the game up to help the comeback and eventually closed the game.
- Arlington? The Cowboys could soon be on their way to Arlington for a Big 12 Championship game. What needs to happen? The most simple route sees Oklahoma State beating BYU next week and Texas winning, shaping up for a battle between the Cowboys and Longhorns.
After dropping a game to UCF, the Cowboys weren't guaranteed a trip to Arlington by winning out, but with help from some rule clarifications and Texas wins, the Cowboys could be playing for a title.
