Oklahoma State's Ollie Gordon II Earns Unanimous All-America Honors
Oklahoma State’s star running back has earned unanimous All-America honors.
Ollie Gordon II had one of the best seasons by a running back in OSU history. In doing so, he was named to the All-America first team by the Associated Press, the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the American Football Coaches Association, The Sporting News and the Football Writers Association of America.
Those are the five official selectors as designated by the NCAA, and his inclusion on each of those teams made Gordon the first OSU player to be named a unanimous All-American since Chuba Hubbard in 2019. Gordon’s season had a number of similarities to Hubbard's, including that both were sophomores and led the nation in rushing yards.
While he is the first since 2019, OSU claims Gordon as the 10th player to earn unanimous All-American honors. He joins Hubbard, Barry Sanders, Terry Miller and Bob Fenimore as the other OSU running backs to do so.
Gordon made his run at being a unanimous All-American with his performance in the Cowboys’ five-game winning streak from October into November. In that stretch, he averaged 199 rushing yards and was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week four straight times.
Gordon helped the Cowboys upset Kansas and Oklahoma but put up massive numbers on the ground in his other two OPOW nods. Against West Virginia, Gordon ran for 282 yards, including 149 and three of his four touchdowns in the fourth quarter to seal the Cowboys’ first conference road win of the season.
In the following week, the sophomore had a 271-yard outing against Cincinnati. But Gordon’s performance in the final game of the regular season clinched his honors for the season.
Against BYU, Gordon helped OSU recover from a 24-6 halftime deficit and punch its ticket to the Big 12 Championship. Gordon ran for 166 yards and five touchdowns, including three in the final minute of regulation and beyond.
Those performances helped Gordon win other season-long honors, as he won the Doak Walker Award and was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Gordon will have a chance to add to his stats against Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl later this month. That game could help Gordon build momentum into next season as he will look to join Justin Blackmon as the only other Cowboy to earn unanimous All-America honors multiple times.
