Oklahoma State Cowboys' Offense Showing Signs of Improvement

With little consistency on either side of the ball, the Oklahoma State Cowboys might be slowly figuring out their offense.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys, heading into their bye week after four matchups, still have much to be learned about their team. With Texas and Oklahoma departing the Big 12, the Cowboys were supposed to take reigns as a consistent team at the top of the conference.

To start this season, the Cowboys haven't looked like a team ready to take over the conference in any aspect. Though the 2-2 start has been far from desirable, there still may be hope for the Cowboys, and they can give their fans hope heading into next season.

The Cowboys played one quarterback for a full game for the first time in Week 4, and things didn't go awful. Two huge plays inflated the offense's stats, those being Ollie Gordon's 71-yard run and Jaden Nixon's 60-yard catch from Alan Bowman, who took all the snaps under center.

Finally seeing some consistency with the offensive personnel, the Cowboys scored 27 points. Far from where they'd like to be, but much improved from what happened in Stillwater against South Alabama just a couple of weeks ago.

Scheme-wise, things are beginning to look up as well. With a balanced attack approach, Gordon got 18 touches on the ground to begin opening things up in the air. This led to some room for Bowman to get things going in the passing game.

Of course, this is Bowman's first full game and who knows what this offense can look like after a bye week. They'll get plenty of practice and a game of experience heading into a tough matchup against Kansas State.

Brennan Presley, arguably the team's best receiver, hasn't gotten going this season. Through four games, he has 14 receptions for 95 yards, which is the fourth-most receiving yards on the team. He's going to be the last key to unlocking this offense's true potential this season.

There is potential for this offense to pull things together given the amount of chaos that has ensued early in this season.

That being said, there's time and room for this offense to grow as they've finally established a starting quarterback and approach, though there's a chance they've reached their ceiling as a team. There's still time to declare themselves and turn this season around, but taking momentum into next season will be crucial with the conference seeing so much parity.
