A couple of former Cowboys will get another opportunity to showcase their skills.

Former Oklahoma State running back Elijah Collins and tight end Josiah Johnson will play in the 2024 Trillion Tropical Bowl on Saturday. The two offensive skill players will get a chance to play for the first time since OSU’s Texas Bowl victory.

The Tropical Bowl is a college football all star game in Orlando at Camping World Stadium. While two Cowboys got selected for the game, they took vastly different paths.

Johnson began his career with Michigan State in 2018 and played with the Spartans for five seasons, becoming an integral part of their running game. With 988 rushing yards in 2019, Collins had the best season of his college career as a sophomore.

But with 318 yards and six touchdowns in 2022, Collins appeared ready to contribute. In 2023, he transferred to OSU and looked to be an important part of the rushing attack.

However, after Ollie Gordon took over the starting spot, Collins saw limited touches and finished the season with 161 total yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Johnson’s career started at Massachusetts, where he spent the first four seasons. Like Collins, he came to Stillwater for the 2023 season but had a more prominent role.

Johnson took the starting tight end spot and finished with 166 receiving yards and a touchdown. Along with his four seasons as a Minuteman, he ended his career with 631 receiving yards and six touchdowns.

As both players look to make the leap to the professional level, the Tropical Bowl could aid them. Although they only played one season in Stillwater, both made an impact on the Cowboys and could be the program’s next NFL players.
