BREAKING: Oklahoma State Ranked in AP Top 25 For First Time This Season Following Bedlam Win
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are coming off a huge win. They downed No. 9 Oklahoma 27-24 in a classic Bedlam battle for the last time. The next time these two teams will see each other, it'll either be in a bowl game or in the new 12-team College Football Playoffs which will be introduced in a year.
Now, on three occasions this season, the Cowboys have defeated a team that was ranked in the initial College Football Playoff rankings. Sure, the loss against South Alabama earlier in the season stains the Cowboys' season a little bit, but the big wins far outweigh the loss, and, in retrospect, the Iowa State loss looks much better.
Voters for the rankings can also watch the Cowboys and notice the strides they've made as a team since that loss. They're trending toward a Big 12 Championship game appearance this season, and that's wild to think about considering where this team was before its bye week.
With that, the Cowboys were ranked No. 15 in the updated AP Top 25 rankings. The big wins recently have brought the Cowboys into the rankings for the first time, though they were ranked No. 22 last week in the College Football Playoff rankings.
While it doesn't mean as much as the College Football Playoff rankings, the Cowboys finally finding their way into the AP poll is a testament to how impressive they've been as a team since turning things around.
Also, the higher the ranking for the Cowboys, the more of a spotlight Ollie Gordon receives as he is putting together a Heisman campaign in an incredible breakout season.
Overall, the team has improved on a weekly basis and that's finally being recognized in all the rankings, and it'll be interesting to see how that'll continue if the Cowboys finish out the season strong.
