Former Oklahoma State Forward Helps Oklahoma City Blue Win G League Championship

The former Cowboy helped the Blue to a G League championship victory.

The Oklahoma City Blue -- the G League affiliate of the Oklahoma City Thunder -- won the G League championship on Monday night. They defeated the Maine Celitcs, the G League affiliate of the Boston Celtics, to earn the Game 3 and series victory.

The former Oklahoma State Cowboy, Lindy Waters III, was assigned to the Blue for the final series of the G League season. The team lost Game 1, which then saw them travel to Oklahoma City for Game 2. Waters scored 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting and 5-of-7 on 3-pointers to keep the series alive for the Blue in the 99-89 victory.

In Game 3 -- the final of the best-of-3 series -- Waters contributed 15 points on 5-of-13 shooting and 11 rebounds in the 117-100 victory, watching the Blue cruise to a G League title.

The 26-year-old, who plays sparingly for the Thunder, has received more opportunity with the team down the final stretch of the NBA regular season. He's scored in double figures in three of the team's last five games, taking advantage of the opportunity given to him, all while contributing to the G League team.

The 6-foot-6 guard played four seasons in Stillwater after joining the program as a three-star prospect from Norman, OK. He played his first season under head coach Brad Underwood before Mike Boynton took over the program.

Over the course of his four years, Water started 105 of his 121 games played for the Pokes. His best season was his junior year, which saw him average 12.2 points in 33.8 minutes per game. He shot 39 percent from beyond the arc during his career in Stillwater, helping show his future archetype at the pro level.

After leaving Oklahoma State, Waters had a unique journey to get to the NBA, with stops with the Enid Outlaws and Oklahoma City Blue before receiving a call-up. On a standard NBA contract, things went full circle as Waters helped the Blue to the title.
