According to On3.com, Mississippi State freshman defensive lineman Jonathan Davis has entered his name in the transfer portal.

A former three-star recruit in the 2023 class, Davis is set to depart from the program with four years of remaining eligibility.

A native of Mississippi, Davis originally chose the Bulldogs over their in-state rival, Ole Miss, but after not appearing in a single game this season, he has opted to seek another landing spot.

Hailing from Lawrence County High School in Monticello, Mississippi, Davis was a somewhat under recruited prospect, holding offers from just three power five programs: Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Texas.

Standing at 6-foot-5, 305 lbs., Davis showed both run stopping and pass rushing skills in high school, helping lead his team to a 7-3 record as a senior.

Davis marks the 17th Bulldogs player to enter the transfer portal since the conclusion of the 2023 season, and the third within the most recent recruiting class, joining Nakai Poole and Will James.

New head coach Jeff Lebby appears to have his work cut out for him in his first offseason as leader of the Bulldogs, but has already shown an ability to land solid players on both the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal.

Mississippi State currently boasts the 28th ranked recruiting class in the nation, according to On3.com, and also has made splashes in the portal, picking up talented veterans from other power five programs.
