Mississippi State Women's Basketball Top Signee For 2023 Signing Class Wins Press Player Of The Year
Quanirah Montague of Atlantic City, New Jersey -- Mississippi State's top signee for the class of 2023 --was named Press Player Of The Year this week after leading her team to the finals.
Montague has averaged 17.3 points per game, 12.7 rebounds, and 3.3 assists this season. The four-star recruit is leaving high school with 1,006 career points. She has been ranked the No. 48 prospect in the country, the sixth-best post player in the country, and the third-best player in the state of New Jersey.
Very few high school players have Montague's skill, size, and agility. The incredible athlete can play all five positions with a wingspan of 6-11.
She has improved across the board each season and can score in the post with her back to the basket. Montague can not only score from the dribble but from the perimeter as well.
As a junior, she averaged a double-double (12.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game) while averaging 2.9 blocks per contest.
Montague had many college offers but chose MSU over Ohio State, Penn State, Florida State, UCLA, Rutgers, and many more. This young lady is a very special player and Mississippi State is lucky to have her.
Coach Purcell is very eager to have her skills next year and watch her thrive over the next couple of years.
"This young lady is special. Q [Quanirah Cherry-Montague] is an extremely versatile post player. She has the size and a special skill set that many players don't have. She stretches the floor and can play inside and out. I know that our fan base will absolutely love watching her play for years to come," said Purcell.
All are very ready to see what she will bring to the team next year.
