Following the season-opening win for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, VMI came back with a 14-13 victory in the second game, tying the teams in the series.

The Bulldogs started the contest off strong in the first inning with a score of 8-1. They held their own and was able to prevent VMI from making runs in. In the second afternoon matchup, there were quite a few home runs batted. So far this season, MSU's batting is looking sharp and will help it excel this season.

It wasn't until the top of the seventh inning where VMI pushed to the lead by one run. In this inning, State started off with Colby Holcombe Pitching and midway through Nate Dohm went in. Both players are sophomores, in tonights game it showed they both need more time to get comfortable behind the mound.

VMI scored again at the top of the ninth putting them 14-12. The Bulldogs came back with one more run in them but it was not enough to put them in the lead to win.

The series will continues during Sunday afternoon action in the final game. It will be interesting to see how things play out as the Bulldogs round out their first series of the 2023 season.
