Mississippi State Softball Posts Solid Home-Opening Performance in 9-2 Win Over Mississippi Valley State

Mississippi State Softball wins its home-opener with a strong start.

Mississippi State softball kicked things off on a high note in Starkville for 2023, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning to propel them to a 9-2 win against Mississippi Valley State.

This marks the 10th consecutive season in which State has won its home opener.

After spending time on the road, it was clear the Bulldogs came into this one ready to play. Bri Bower got to start in the circle and tossed for three innings, posting a career high of six strikeouts.

Saleyna Daniel hit a two-run triple in the first inning while Paige Cook and Aquana Brownlee drove in runs for the making a big inning.

Later in the game in the sixth inning, Brownlee had an RBI double, while Brylie St. Clair continued MSU's bunting success with two bunt singles in the game. She stole two bases in her first time around as State stole four total bases -- a season-high number -- and now has four multi-hit games this year.

Cook was 1-for-2 with RBI's and has made her fifth multi-hit game and three multi-RBI game of the season.

In terms of overall performance, State posted a solid one and seems to be on the rise despite having a few players out due to injuries. The Bulldogs are looking good behind the plate and it will be something to watch in coming games.

MSU returns to home action as it hosts the Snowman Tournament on March 3rd-5th against Dartmouth, Abilene Christian and Murray State.
