Mississippi State Softball's Josey Marron Ties Freshman Record

Freshman Josey Marron tied the record in strikeouts in the third game of the year.

Mississippi State softball freshman Josey Marron has tied the record of 13 strikeouts in her third complete game of the year.

This season, Marron has started in three games and posted a 1.37 ERA which is second on the team and she averages 9.8 strikeouts per seven innings. She is ranked seventh in the SEC for strike outs per innings and is ranked 11th for her 7.0 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

In the contest against South Florida, she threw a complete game with a one hit shutout performance, striking out eight players making her just shy of a career high.

The Iowa native ranked No. 17 in the nation during her high school career, posting a 1.77 ERA over 284 innings with 354 strike outs. In 242 innings she struck out 399 batters with 1.80 ERA in her sophomore season. On her junior year, she had 504 strikeouts among 350 innings. During the final year of her high school career, she totaled 101 strike outs just in the first 58 innings played.

In 2022, she was selected to play in the Alliance Fast pitch All-Star game and the Colorado Sparkler All-Star game.

At this early of a stage in her career, it's plain to see that Marron has accomplished so much. She will definitely be a player to watch over the next couple of years.

The Bulldogs return to play Feb. 28 against Mississippi Valley State in Nusz Park.
