MSU Men's Basketball 2024 Commits: G Kur Teng

Michigan State 2024 commit Kur Teng will add to the abundance of guard talent the Spartans are already set to have next season.

Jase Richardson is not the only four-star guard joining the Michigan State men's basketball team next season.

A little more than a year ago, class of 2024 four-star guard Kur Teng of Haverhill, Massachusetts committed to Michigan State, eventually signing with the program on Nov. 8, National Signing Day.

Teng is ranked 49th in his class, the eight-best shooting guard in the nation and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Massachusetts, according to 247Sports' composite ratings.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard is around the same build as Spartans guard Jadin Akins and has a similar scoring ability.

Teng started his high school career at Manchester High School in Manchester, New Hampshire. According to On3, he scored 30 points in his very first high school outing. He then transferred to Bradford Christian Academy in Massachusetts, where he finished his high school career.

The Spartan commit was offered by 15 other schools, including Providence, Rutgers, and Auburn, to name a few.

“Their play style really fits me really well,” Teng told 247Sports when he announced his commitment to Michigan State. “I like to come off pin downs on the offensive end. Every time I watched them there’s been a similarity between them and the way I play right now with my team.”

The following is an evaluation from Aasim Sullivan of Prep Hoops:

Teng’s athleticism sets him apart on the court, allowing for dynamic plays and versatility in both ends of the game. As a smooth scorer, he seamlessly blends finesse with athleticism, making him a consistent offensive threat. Teng’s ability to analyze the defense enables strategic attacks, exploiting weaknesses and creating scoring opportunities. His range from outside further diversifies his scoring capabilities, making him a well-rounded and impactful player on the team."

Michigan State has benefitted from the play of many highly-rated guards that have joined its program in the past. With Teng, Richardson and the guards who decide to return next season, the Spartans could have some valuable depth in their guard room. The next focus, of course, should be for Michigan State coach Tom Izzo to find some big men.

The Michigan State Spartan Football Spring Green and White Game (Spring Showcase) will be held at the High Cathedral of the Spartan Nation, Spartan Stadium, on April 20, 2024, at 2 p.m.
