For this Kentucky basketball team to be great the defense has to be better
We have a big enough sample size of this Kentucky basketball team to really sit down and start to discuss what this team has been good at and what needs to be better.
Of course, there is no denying how good the offense has been for this Kentucky basketball team. In points per game, the Cats are fourth in college hoops at 90.2, and they have done an incredible job not turning over the basketball.
KenPom's adjusted offensive numbers have the Cats 13th in all of college basketball, so we know offensive output isn't a concern moving forward.
The issue is that KenPom has Kentucky's adjusted defensive ranking at 47th in college hoops, which just isn't good enough.
All college basketball fans know how it's said to make a run in March; you need to be in the top 20 in both of these KenPom numbers, which tells me the Cats need to get better on defense.
If Kentucky doesn't get better on the defensive side of things, a bad shooting day could lead to an early exit in March.
It's hard to nitpick this team because all of Big Blue Nation knows how good this basketball team is and can be, so they need to keep improving on the problem areas so the Cats don't get bounced early in the tournament.
The way this team scores, if they get better on the defensive side of things, it's hard to imagine that they could lose.
