As Bronco Mendenhall's staff prepare for a new season in Albuquerque, they'll receive some veteran support in their defensive backfield. Former Northwestern cornerback Nigel Williams will join the Lobos for the upcoming season, the program announced this week.

Williams will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. He was originally a three-star recruit coming out of high school, committing to Northwestern in the class of 2019. The Wildcats played Williams in 19 total games, with the Virginia native registering three total tackles.

Northwestern's roster had Williams listed at 6'1" and 200 pounds. He'll add depth to a UNM defense that allowed an average of 236 passing yards per game last season, seventh in the Mountain West.

The spring transfer window is set to open on April 16 and close again on April 30. UNM's 2024 spring game is set for April 20. The Lobos will open the 2024 season on August 24 when they host FCS Montana State.
