Should Gonzaga stay in the WCC? Adam Morrison, Tom Hudson debate Big 12 rumors
The 2023-24 college basketball season is just days from tipping off, and while the Gonzaga Bulldogs prepare for their exhibition opener on Nov. 3, much of the focus nationally has circulated around which conference they'll associate with in the future.
Arguably the biggest offseason storylines have centered around a potential move to the Big 12, as talks between its commissioner Brett Yormark and Gonzaga have been ongoing for the last handful of weeks. Gonzaga Nation confirmed last week that Yormark visited Mark Few in Spokane, a sign that realignment is still very much alive at this point. Even if Yormark's wish of having the Bulldogs by 2024-25 doesn't come to fruition, it's still a possibility down the road.
There are still plenty of financial implications to sort out on both sides, as well as Gonzaga's comfortable place in the West Coast Conference. The league has accommodated the Bulldogs for their NCAA Tournament success in recent years, while commissioner Stu Jackson strives to expand the conference's exposure through an enhanced media deal with ESPN and CBS Sports Network. Expansion is on the table as well after BYU's departure.
A case can be made for Gonzaga to stay put or leave for a perceived greener pasture. As for Voice of the Zags radio announcer Tom Hudson, he breaks down how the landscape has changed significantly on a new episode of The Perimeter podcast with former All-American Adam Morrison.
