Men's college basketball rankings: Gonzaga remains at No. 9 in final AP Top 25 poll (3/13/23)
The Gonzaga men's basketball team was ranked No. 9 in the season's final Associated Press Top 25 poll released Monday.
The Zags (28-5, 14-2 WCC), who also placed ninth last week, won the West Coast Conference Tournament championship last Tuesday. They crushed then-No. 16 Saint Mary's by 26 points at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. The Gaels ended at No. 19.
It's been an up-and-down year for Gonzaga, which peaked at No. 2 and fell as low as No. 18. Head coach Mark Few's program has finished each of the last seven seasons in the top 10 of the AP poll.
Gonzaga is riding a nine-game winning streak heading into the NCAA Tournament where the team is a No. 3 seed in the West Region. The Zags will open March Madness against Grand Canyon at 4:35 p.m. PST on Friday in Denver.
The final national rankings are led by Alabama, who jumped three spots after winning the SEC Tournament Championship on Sunday. The Crimson Tide was named the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Duke saw the largest improvement in the poll, moving up nine spots. The Blue Devils defeated Virginia to win the ACC Tournament on Saturday.
UCLA took the biggest tumble, as the Bruins fell from No. 2 to No. 7 following their loss to Arizona in the Pac-12 Tournament title game on Saturday.
