Georgia target QB, Ryan Montgomery is set to make his college commitment announcement on Wednesday. We try to predict where he will land.
The University of Georgia currently sits with seven commits in the 2025 recruiting class. They have multiple tight ends committed, they have a few defensive players committed, but unlike typical Georgia recruiting cycles, they don't have a lead Dawg in the form of a quarterback committed.
Their 2025 recruiting board at Quarterback has seemed pretty straight forward — Matt Zollers, Julian Lewis, and Ryan Montgomery. That's what their board has been for quite some time now and with Matt Zollers off the board and committed to Missouri, it's made it pretty straight forward for the Bulldogs. Either continue to pursue flipping Julian Lewis, or push the chips in on Ryan Montgomery.
Well, Ryan Montgomery is set to come off the board on Wednesday, April 17th. It's been known for some time now that Montgomery wants to play in the SEC, with his finalist being South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia. So, where will he commit?
Georgia
Georgia has always seemed like the team that would be in the front of the line for Montgomery if they were willing to take his commitment. Montgomery spoke with the Georgia media back in late January, stating that he was adamant about playing in the SEC for development purposes and that he wanted to compete against the best. Georgia not only provides that opportunity on Saturdays in the fall, but it also provides that opportunity in practice. Carson Beck's development speaks to Georgia's ability to develop a high school signal caller into a ready-to-play NFL Caliber QB with just years of practice behind closed doors. If Georgia is ready to receive the commitment from Montgomery, it'll likely be them.
South Carolina
The Gamecocks have done a really good job in the recruitment of Montgomery. They are set to receive his first scheduled official visit this weekend, so even if they don't gain his commitment, they presumably will have the first opportunity to flip him. At one point, it seemed that Montgomery appeared to be a South Carolina lean. The question now becomes did they do enough to battle Georgia and even Florida at this point for the 6'5" gunslinger?
Florida
If Billy Napier has had championship-caliber success anywhere since becoming a head coach in the Power4, it's been recruiting quarterbacks to start his tenure. Signing 5-star DJ Lagway in the class of 2024 is arguably the most positive outcome he's had since becoming the Florida head coach. Unfortunately for Napier, that very signing of Lagway may keep him from landing another elite signal caller in the 2025 class. All signs point to Lagway being the guy in Gainesville for the foreseeable future, something that could scare off top targets in the 2025 class. Though Montgomery did set a commitment date just hours after leaving Gainseville from an unofficial visit, something that could bode well for the Gators.
