Dell McGee's Top Recruits During His Time at Georgia

Few coaches in college football carry the recruiting resume of Dell McGee. Here are some of his greatest hits from his time at Georgia.

Former Georgia running backs coach Dell McGee was officially named Georgia State's head coach on Friday, marking the beginning of a new journey for one of the most well-respected coaches in the business and the end of an outstanding era for McGee at Georgia.

McGee would've almost certainly given Georgia head coach Kirby Smart a substantial heads up that he could leave the program, allowing Smart to begin his search for McGee's replacement, but that's easier said than done. During his time in Athens, McGee was one of the most elite and effective recruiters in the game.

Outside of Smart himself, no one recruits the state of Georgia like McGee. While at Georgia, McGee was the lead recruiter on nine five-star commits. Seven of those were from Georgia including  QB Justin Fields, OG Jamaree Salyer, and OT Broderick Jones, all of whom now play in the NFL.

He's also an elite recruiter of running backs. The two five stars not from Georgia that McGee recruited were D'Andre Swift (Pennsylvania) and Zamir White (North Carolina). Swift is currently the starting running back for the Philadelphia Eagles and White had a breakout season with the Las Vegas Raiders.

McGee's list of running back signees is ridiculous: D'Andre Swift, Zamir White, Elijah Holyfield, Kenny McIntosh, Daijun Edwards, James Cook, Kendall Milton, Branson Robinson, Roderick Robinson, Andrew Paul, and so many more.

Heck, throw-in punter Jake Camarda as well, Georgia's national championship punter who is now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Dell McGee's departure leaves a massive hole on Georgia's staff that may be impossible to fill. He's that good. If anyone can turn Georgia State's program around, it's him.
