Dan Jackson is Georgia football's elder statesman. He shared his insights into how the defense has performed so far this spring.
Dan Jackson has been around Georgia football for a long, long time. The North Hall high school standout came to Georgia in the spring of 2019, in the same class as guys like Nolan Smith, Travon Walker, and Warren McClendon.
Georgia's first safety off the bench for the past four seasons, he's been a key contributor on defense and special teams for two national championship teams. Now, he's the leader in a secondary group that features multiple players who were still in middle school when he was playing college football. He spoke to the media earlier this week about that secondary.
Where is he at in his development this spring?: "Yeah, I feel great. I mean, I'm, I'm just like anybody else I'm still learning. And I'm going to continue to learn for the rest of my career. But I'm just happy to be out there and happy to be healthy."
On new co-defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson: "He's been an incredible. Coach T-Rob brings the juice every day. Whether it be meetings, practice, he's always he's got great energy. And I mean, he's easy to follow."
How the defense performed in the second scrimmage: "I think just from overall standpoint, just need to have more juice, more energy. I think as a from a defensive standpoint, we try to bring our best every day and I think just more energy and more communication."
Advice for KJ Bolden: "I just try to get the point across to, you know, just keep your head down, and stay hungry, because he's shown, I think all of us so far, and all of the newcomers have, that they're ready to work, and that they can contribute."
On the competition to replace Javon Bullard and Tykee Smith: "Yeah, I mean, I think we're not really worried about a depth chart right now. I think we're all just trying to be the best we can be as a group. And just work on communicating with each other. You know, somebody might not know a call yet. Just we're all trying to learn right now. So that's what the springs for."
