Colbert’s Exit No Impact on WR Chance Robinson’s High Interest in Gators

St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Chance Robinson holds the University of Florida in high regard even after position coach Keary Colbert’s departure.

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. -- Camp season is officially underway with Under Armour hosting their annual regional camps, this time in Orlando.

Prospects from across the sunshine state and a few from other neighboring states showed up to put their talent on display for a chance to earn an invite to the prestigious UA All-American game held in Orlando every January.

One of the more notable prospects in attendance was St. Thomas Aquinas WR Chance Robinson. While Robinson did not compete in the camp, he did make some time to talk to All Gators about his recruitment following the news that Keary Colbert would no longer be his future coach.

“Everything is going good, as you know coach KC recently left but that doesn’t really change my mind about them,” he shared. “What I like about Florida, they have a QB commit in my class DJ Lagway, I know he's a good player and if you can get matched up with a good quarterback like that, you can take a team a [long] way, and they’re always keeping in contact with me.

“Coach [Benedick] Hyppolite (Quality Control – Running Backs) and Coach [David] Doeker the assistant receivers coach that’s there,” he said when asked about his contacts at the school. “They also have Andy Jean up there right now and he looks like he’s doing good. They have a couple guys from down in south Florida and they’re always keeping in touch.”

The Gators currently have two players on their roster that attended the same school as Robinson. He says that can only help things for Florida as those players are doing their best to recruit him to Gainesville.

“They’ve got Tyreak Sapp who came from STA, and [Derek Wingo], you know they are going to encourage me to go up there. They’re always talking to me; I talk to Sapp [a lot] and he’s just telling me to come there. I like Florida, it’s a backyard school.”

Though the Gators don’t currently have someone in place to point to as Robinson’s future coach, they are reassuring him that regardless of who it is he can be successful in Gainesville.

“Basically, coach Hyppolite and coach Doeker are telling us that the receiver room is gonna be fun. We’ve got some guys in the room, we’re gonna have a coach soon. It’s Florida. We’re going to get somebody here and as soon as that happens, I’m gonna build that relationship right away. I just know Florida is on me hard and I like those guys.”

While Robinson hasn’t released a list of his top schools, he did say that some schools have done a better job recruiting him than others. The Gators are in that group alongside Florida State, Miami, Auburn, Georgia, and Penn State.

While Robinson is still working through his recruitment process, he does have a time frame of when he wants to make a commitment in mind as well as an idea of when he wants to take his official visits.

“Honestly, I want to be committed before the season starts so I can just lock in keep my head on straight and just play ball. I’m just taking my time right now, but summer is a couple months from now, so just keep my head on right, take my time and get out to some schools in the summer for OV’s”

When asked if he knew of any schools that would get an official visit from him, he mentioned three schools that he is fairly confident he will use an OV for with two more open spots remaining.

“Probably Penn State is the first one, most likely Georgia and probably Auburn but those two I’m not entirely sure on yet.”

Given his evident liking for Florida, the Gators could steal one of those final two official visits with opportunity to seal the deal this summer.

However, based off the aforementioned in-state schools recruiting him the hardest, Florida will have to battle with at least one for the final visit spot down the stretch.
