With the 2023 college football season in the review mirror, ESPN Senior Writer Adam Rittenberg handed out his final grades for 50 transfer quarterbacks on Wednesday. Leading the way among the first-year transfer signal callers was Colorado junior Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders was one of three transfer quarterbacks to receive an ‘A’ grade, joining James Madison’s Jordan McCloud and Appalachian State’s Joey Aguilar. “Sanders was undoubtedly a bright spot for a Colorado team that started fast before fading, dropping its final seven games to finish 4-8.” Rittenberg wrote in his final analysis of the Buffaloes star.

After following his father and Buffaloes head coach, Deion Sanders, from Jackson State, Shedeur had one of the most dominant seasons in program history last fall. In 11 games, he set single-season Colorado records with 3,230 passing yards and a 69.3 completion percentage. His 27 passing touchdowns were also the second most in a single season in program history.

In his Colorado debut against TCU, Sanders set a total of nine school records including most yards of total offense (478) in a season opener. As a result of his impressive play last season, Sanders was awarded the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press. He was also named the First Team All Transfer by On3 and The Athletic.

With the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the NFL Draft having past, Sanders will be returning to lead the Buffaloes offense his senior season. “Y’all know I’m not declaring this year.” He posted on ‘X’ (formerly twitter) on January 12. “We got the pieces we need do it big this year.”

Sanders, who was sacked 52 times in 2023, should be well protected next season. Deion Sanders and staff have added five offensive linemen via the transfer portal and prized five-star recruit Jordan Seaton, who reportedly turned down a multi-million dollar offer from Tennessee.

Shedeur took a break from Boulder and accompanied his brother, Shilo, to Paris to walk in Louis Vuitton Men's Fall-Winter 2024 Collection Show this week. An outstanding accomplishment with them representing CU on the world stage.
