Pinging The Portal: UC Contacts Tennessee Transfer Forward Julian Phillips

Cincinnati has a full roster, but isn't done searching for upgrades.

CINCINNATI — UC basketball has a full roster with the commitment of Aziz Bandaogo, but the staff is still searching for an upgrade after multiple reports have them showing interest in Tennessee transfer forward Julian Phillips.

Widely considered one of the top-10 transfers still available, the freshman is testing the NBA Draft waters right now. Rob Cassidy reports that Memphis, Cincinnati, Texas, Arizona, Auburn, K-State and Kentucky are very much in the mix if he doesn't turn pro.

Phillips was ranked 19th nationally in 247Sports's composite 2022 rankings. He averaged 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists on 41.1% shooting from the field while playing 24.1 minutes per game for the Volunteers.

Phillips could be a fantastic defensive wing complement to Aziz Bandaogo on the Bearcats' own end. He's a strong on-ball defender at 6-foot-8, 200 pounds. He's also a plus-plus athlete that can punish teams in transition, hit a corner three, and cut with precision.

The deadline to withdraw from the NBA Draft is May 31.
