Mark Madsen Confirms He Is Committed to Cal
Presumably in response to speculation that Mark Madsen would be a candidate for the BYU head coaching vacancy, Madsen posted a twitter message Friday morning that indicates he is not going anywhere
Cal coach Mark Madsen posted a message on his twitter account Friday morning that confirms that he is not leaving Cal.
Although there is no specific mention of BYU, this message presumably comes in response to speculation that BYU would likely approach Madsen to become the head coach at BYU after BYU coach Mark Pope accepted an offer to become the head coach at Kentucky on Thursday.
The key phrase in the twitter message is this: "We love Cal and the Bay Area. We are excited and fully committed for the future here at Cal."
Here is that twitter message followed below it by the entire text of the message:
"On behalf of myself and Hannah, we want to thank every single member of the Cal community for your unconditional love and support this year. We have felt welcomed and embraced. Gratitude would be an understatement. We love Cal and the Bay Area. We are excited and fully committed for the future here at Cal.
"Over the coming weeks, you will continue to see outstanding student-athletes committing and signing to Cal. We are building something special. We will win. We will continue to send players to the NBA. “The Haas of Pain” will be in full effect with rabid students and fans.
"To Cal Bear alums----Let's continue to build more NIL opportunities across each and every sport at Cal. As we move to the ACC let's support the "California Legends Collective." Let's become a national leader in NIL.
"Cal is a world class institution with world class athletics. An honor to be part of the community.
"Mark and Hannah

Madsen signed a two-year contract extension on March 12 that now runs through 2030 season. But the presumed interest in Madsen came because he is a Mormon and because he lifted Cal out of the doldrums in his first season in Berkeley.
In his first season as the Golden Bears head coach, Cal went 13-19 overall and 9-11 in the Pac-12 after being picked to finish 11th in the preseason conference media poll.
Cal's average home attendance of 4,566 in 2023-24 was more than double the average home attendance of 2,155 in 2022-23, which was Mark Fox's final season as the Golden Bears' head coach, when the Bears finished 3-29, the worst record in school history.
Cal drew its first home sellout in seven years when 11,801 attended the Bears overtime victory over USC.
All five starters from Cal's 2023-24 squad are gone, so Madsen will try to rebuild the roster through the transfer portal. Vanderbilt center Lee Dort is the first transfer to commit to Cal for next season.
