Takeaways from Auburn basketball’s 89-56 win over Missouri

The Tigers move to 18-8 on the season after dominating the Tigers from CoMo.

The Auburn Tigers took on the Missouri Tigers and beat them by over 30 points. Coach Bruce Pearl and others were worried about attendance given that the game was early, midweek, and on Valentines day. Auburn began the game on a 28-6 run. You really have to be proud of the way this team bounced back. Here are a few takeaways from todays game.

Auburn responded well to adversity

This was a must win for the Tigers. They had taken several losses in a row. There was worry coming in about the attitude of the team. It’s easy to get dejected when you lose several in a row against rivals. This did not happen. There was no head hanging. The boys came to work on Valentines day and absolutely whooped Missouri’s ass. This is a veteran team, and they took care of business. This Auburn team isn’t going to quit, and if they catch fire and shoot well they can beat anyone.

Auburn took Missouri completely out of their element

Auburn took away Missouri’s strength which is the 3 point shot. They guarded so well that it looked like Missouri really didn’t know what to do. Auburn had them in a place they did not want to be and kept them there. Missouri could not protect the rim or rebound. The game showcased what Auburn does well, but also showed their potential. A lot of guys played well tonight. Lior Berman was very efficient. KD Johnson had his best game of the season. Johni Broome and Allen Flanigan scored a combined 36 points. Dillion Cardwell and Zep Jasper played well. Tonight was a good night for Auburn basketball.

Will Auburn make the tournament?

If tonight was any indication, yes. The Tigers losing streak put them in danger of being on the bubble. Auburn lost very close games to three good teams that are at the top of the SEC. Some have said Auburn needs more quad one wins to make the tournament. Fortunately, Northwestern has become one of those, and they have the opportunity to get several more. After tonight’s game, you have to think this team will make the field. Beating Ole Miss and Vanderbilt will be important. Auburn is also looking to finish top four in the SEC to secure the all important double bye. Tonight’s game was a love letter from this team to their fans. It says to relax. It says to have hope, and it says to remember that this team can win anything.
