It's Official: Toronto Argonauts Re-Sign WR Dejon Brissett

A day after word got out about the Toronto Argonauts' latest re-signing, the team officially announced the return of homegrown player Dejon Brissett.

The Toronto Argonauts officially announced today that they re-signed Canadian WR Dejon Brissett. The pact with the Argos' 2020 first-round selection is a reported to be a two-year deal.

After the club traded another homegrown draft pick to Edmonton in Kurleigh Gittens Jr, the return of Brissett helps keep the receiver position strong with several Canadian starting options.

Brissett, 27, is coming off a career year in 2023 after hauling in 38 passes for 594 yards and five touchdowns in 18 games. Brissett also registered eleven tackles in special teams coverage. The Mississauga native has always brought value as a reserve and on special teams, but he could see his role on offense expand even further in 2024.

The 6-1, 195-pound receiver was drafted second overall by Toronto during the 2020 CFL Draft and has appeared in 47 games, catching 57 passes for 827 yards and six touchdowns, with 18 special teams tackles.

As a senior in college, Brissett transferred to the University of Virginia in 2019, playing in 12 games for the Cavaliers. He initially played at Richmond University from 2015-2018, hauling in 85 catches for 1,296 yards and nine touchdowns in 29 games. Brissett was named First Team All-CAA after his junior year.

The re-signing of Brissett before he hits free agency leaves the Argonauts with 18 pending free agents tentatively set to hit the open market on February 13.
